During the quiet period for the Victoria Rooms over Christmas and the New Year the committee took the opportunity to have the flooring in the Reading Room replaced with a new heavy duty vinyl. This looks really great and will make cleaning a whole lot easier.
On a slightly less happy note, Carol Davidson our events’ organiser has had to stand down due to health issues. We wish Carol a speedy recovery and the committee would like to thank her for all her hard work over the past 18 months raising funds for our village hall. Unfortunately, this does mean that our usual monthly bingo sessions will not be taking place for the foreseeable future. However, we hope they will be up and running again before too long so watch this space for more details. If anyone feels they would like to take over the future running of the bingo sessions, please give Carol a ring on 400095 and she will be more than happy to let you know what is involved.
Additionally, if anyone would like to join the fundraising committee please contact Sue on 400609 – we would love to hear from you!
Another disappointment is that our planned concert by Australian boogie woogie pianist, Jan Preston, scheduled for 22nd June 2019, has been cancelled. Unfortunately, Jan is suffering ill health and has had to cancel her UK tour. We wish her well and hope that she will be able to visit the UK and Milverton in 2020.
Rather belatedly, congratulations to the team from Milverton Dramatic Society who won the Victoria Rooms’ Christmas Quiz on 14th December. The quiz was great fun and also raised over £380.00 for the Victoria Rooms’ funds. Thanks to Chris and her team for organising the event and also to Gwil for his (as usual) excellent quiz.
Tickets for Somerset Opera’s performance of The Mikado on Saturday 30th March 2019 are now on sale. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. There will be a bar. Tickets cost £10.00 each and can be purchased from Milverton Stores or by calling Sue on 01823 400609.
Your postage stamps are still very welcome and the sale of these contributes towards the Victoria Rooms’ funds. Please leave them in the pouch in the Reading Room or contact Maggie on 400142.
