MILVERTON HERITAGE DAY
Our Heritage Day, which was a joint venture between the Milverton Archive and Local History Group and St Michael's Church was held on the 19th September.
We had a steady flow of visitors all day, and it was good to see so many people spending time and looking at all the exhibits and information displays with keen interest.
The weather was wonderful, and so the slightly challenging trips up the church tower were well rewarded by glorious sunshine and wonderful views over Milverton and the surrounding countryside.
The exhibits, which ranged from a display of village archives, through to old tithe maps, a history of World War II in the village, local archeology, including an impressive display of coins and artefacts discovered in and around the Milverton area, the Court Leet, and the old school records, to name just a few, were very well received and were a credit to all those who put in so much effort on the day.
We also had a very rare opportunity, through the generosity of the owners, to visit the Old House in Milverton to view the wonderful sixteenth century mural painting of Henry VIII.
Musical entertainment was provided by The Milvertones and St Michael's Singers, and the whole day was sustained by excellent hot food, cakes and tea and coffee, which were a great success.
Many thanks to all those who took part and helped to make this a really successful day!
